I started blogging in February 2003 and have made it habit to blog almost everyday. This page is where I note down my thoughts, opinions and critique of almost everything. Please note that this is an adult blog and would require the reader to be thick-skinned. Oh, and some of the stuff here may be gay related so proceed at your own risk. No refund given for offence taken.

OF ALL PEOPLE...
...to be made a nominated member of parliament is the law academic Dr (not a medical one) Thio Li-Ann. For those of you who are not in the know, she and her mother are two very homophobic people who use whatever opportunity they have via the media to bash gays and lesbians.

She is better known as someone who was involved in the drafting of the "Elected Presidency" act which is practically defunct.

Anyway, both she and her mother are Christians of the Roman variety. And though, she claims in an interview with Channel NewsAsia that she wants to focus on more progressive and liberal issues regarding political liberalisation, free speech, human and women's rights, I wonder whether she sees the dichotomy of her position on gay issues vis-à-vis her stated aims below.

"There're a whole myriad of factors, from the treatment of maids to education issues, to political liberalisation, free speech issues, human rights and women's rights."

Promote human and women's rights but deny equal treatment to gays and lesbians? How schizophrenic is that. Or has reactionary and conservative religion contaminated her more progressive and liberal views towards such basic rights as equality of everyone regardless of sex, age, race, sexuality, religion, economic class, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if she'll use this new platform to sprout and pursue her homophobic agenda. Or maybe that was the PAP's idea when they selected her as a new NMP. Then again, those who make the loudest noise usually have something to hide. Remember the former Pastor Ted Haggard from the Nov 2006 scandal?

Anyway, while I was doing a google on her, I managed to browse through some blogs and I couldn't help but noticed the amount of vituperative comments about her; not just from the "homosexuals" but the straight community as well.

The first picture is from the Channel NewsAsia website while the second was scanned from today's Straits Times. She is the long haired one in the middle.

I had wanted to make some comments about her looks as compared to the others, but I shall be nice and hold back my bitchiness. :-)

  • Oh ya, now that you mentioned it.... the lady in the middle with long hair looks like some farmer's wife from China.... dress wise and posture wise.

On googling, realised she is some kind of brilliant lawyer. Better shut up before I get sued lah!

Am not politically inclined. As an artist and a writer, I can't help seeing what I see.

Ahh... But as an artist and a writer, you only reflect the truth. :-)
